Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union, established in 1971 through the merger of the Wairarapa and Bush Rugby Unions, is the governing body for rugby in the Wairarapa region.
We proudly oversee and support the game from junior grassroots through to senior community and representative rugby, carrying a strong provincial heritage and deep community connection.

Our region is home to 12 active rugby clubs and 7 secondary schools, forming the backbone of our rugby community. We work closely with these clubs, schools, and local partners to create inclusive and sustainable rugby environments that encourage participation, enjoyment, and long-term player development.

We are also proud to be the home region of legendary All Black captain Sir Brian Lochore, whose legacy continues to inspire rugby across our communities.

From first-time Small Blacks participants through to our Heartland Championship representative teams, we are focused on providing clear pathways for players, coaches, referees, and volunteers to progress and succeed in the game.

Our commitment extends beyond the field, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, connection, and building lifelong involvement in rugby. Through coaching courses, development programmes, school engagement, and community initiatives, we aim to grow not just better players, but better people.

Proud of our history and passionate about our future, Wairarapa Bush Rugby continues to unite our region through the game we love.
