Course Description

Register for one of the Counties Manukau Coach Development Workshops below to observe, interact, and learn alongside our Counties Manukau NPC coaches. You’ll work with some of the top talent in the region while covering key components of NZR’s compulsory RugbySmart programme for 2026. This is a great opportunity to upskill your current knowledge and be signed off as an NZR RugbySmart accredited coach.

RugbySmart is a world-leading injury prevention programme and since it’s inception in 2001 it has seen significant drops in rugby-related injury claims. It is a comprehensive approach that is about keeping players where coaches and supporters want them: on the field, contributing to a successful team operating in a safe environment.

Before the season kicks off all coaches of U14 & above rugby, including assistant coaches, position specific coaches & technical assistants MUST attend a Rugby Smart practical session facilitated by CMRFU before the commencement of competition games each season.

Sanctions for non-compliance

It is compulsory that every coach attends RugbySmart and that each team has one or more registered coaches assigned to them. Any coach required to attend RugbySmart who fails to do so will be stood down from all coaching activities until they complete the course. If a team has a coach who has not met this requirement before the season begins, the team will be withdrawn from its competition.
