About Us
Situated between the urban masses of Auckland City and Hamilton, and largely based around the vast Manukau Harbour, Counties Manukau is a province made up of urban South Auckland and vast farmlands that range from Te Kauwhata and Onewhero in the south, to Maramarua and Beachlands in the east and out to the iron sands of the rugged west coast. A total of 17 local rugby clubs, that come together as one – Counties Manukau. Home to hard-working people, proud of their humble origins and fanatical about playing attractive rugby.
Counties Manukau Rugby has held a reputation of playing attractive and aggressive rugby since those early days when we took on our cousins from the big cities either side of our borders.
Home to legends like Pat Walsh, Bob Lendrum, Bruce Robertson, Alan Dawson, Andy Dalton, Errol Brain, Jonah Lomu, Joeli Vidiri and more recently to the likes of World Cup winner Stephen Donald, former All Blacks skipper Kieran Read, dual code international Sonny Bill Williams and the effervescent Ruby Tui.
The thing those players had in common was their humble origins – starting out the way we all started by playing grassroots footy and working their way up as talent and dedication shone through.
To those outside our boundaries, Counties Manukau is an area but to those of us that live here, that have the red, white and black hoops running through our veins, it is a way of life. We express ourselves, we’re proud of who went before us, the people and experiences that make us what we are. We’re connected, we work hard and we’re courageous.
That’s the #prideinthehoops mantra and we live by it.
