Bombay stalwart and local junior Adam Brash has been a real success story of the Counties Manukau Steelers over the past couple of seasons.
Making his debut in 2022, Brash has gone on to earn his blazer for the Union and been a stand-out player during coach Reon Graham’s reign, typifying what it means to wear the hoops.
“Representing this province means everything to me,” Brash said. “This is my home, and I was a fan of this team before I was a player here.
“It’s definitely something that I would never take for granted. So many legends have worn this jersey and to play on the same field and wear the same jersey is special.”
While he has enjoyed a number of strong games, Brash gives the nod to his debut as the moment that stands out the most. Playing in front of family and friends at Navigation Homes Stadium against Otago, the Steelers won in the final moments when Riley Hohepa kicked a drop goal to end the game.
“It’s really hard to narrow it down to a couple moments or lessons,” he explained. “My debut was a huge moment for me, just getting on the field was a dream come true and for us to win it with Riley’s [Riley Hohepa] last minute drop goal was epic.”
Brash is a builder with local company Smith & Sons Ltd, who are big supporters of sport and so Tradies Day is something that is extra special for the Bombay skipper.
“For a long time, I had seen Smith & Sons sponsoring local sports teams, which I liked,” Brash said. “After a conversation with the boss, it was pretty clear that they were genuine good people who are passionate about doing high quality work in their community.
“In the building trade, there is a lot of opportunity for growth which I enjoy, and other than that it’s really enjoyable working with others to achieve something big.
“Rugby has taught me how to have a strong work ethic and how to work well with others which are pretty essential traits as a tradie.”
