NSW Youth Sevens Teams Announced for 2025 Next Gen 'Battle of the Border'

NSW Rugby has officially named its final squads for the 2025 Next Gen 'Battle of the Border' Youth 7s tournament this Sunday the 9th of February at Ballymore Stadium.

Four teams, comprising two Under-18 and two Under-16 sides (Youth Girls and Boys), will take on Queensland on Sunday, in what promises to be an action-packed day of rugby sevens.

The tournament will be live-streamed via Rugby Xplorer, allowing fans and families to watch the next generation of NSW talent in action.

The selected teams feature promising talent from across New South Wales, including regional representatives eager to showcase their skills on the big stage. Included is Darci Turinui, daughter of former Wallaby Morgan Turinui, who has been named in the U16 Youth Girls squad.

Inge Visser, former Waratahs and Netherlands international, will lead the U18 Youth Girls team as head coach. Visser, who has a wealth of experience in both playing and coaching, continues her journey in developing the next generation of female rugby stars.

Tom Connor, a former Australian Sevens player and Shute Shield winner with Warringah, will serve as assistant coach across all teams, bringing elite-level experience to the NSW setup.

Nathan McMahon, Coaching Director of NSWRU Youth 7s, expressed excitement about the upcoming tournament.

"We’ve assembled four incredibly talented squads, with players from all over the state coming together to represent NSW. The 'Battle of the Border' is a great opportunity for these young athletes to test themselves against strong competition from Queensland," McMahon said.
