The NSW Waratahs and Rugby Australia have confirmed that Waratahs player Henry O’Donnell has received and accepted an 18-month drug suspension.

The backdated ban, commencing from July 1 2025, will see the centre unable to compete until the start of 2027.

It comes after O'Donnell tested positive for two substances relating to ADHD medication, which, at the time, he did not have a subscription for.

The former Western Force star was deemed not to have used it to gain an advantage.

"The sanction as determined by Sports Integrity Australia relates to O’Donnell testing positive for D-amphetamine and Ritalinic Acid – two substances associated with ADHD medication - during an in-competition doping control test conducted on 9 May 2025, without a Therapeutic Use Exemption," the combined statement read.

"The Waratahs and Rugby Australia note the SIA finding that the violation was not intentional and took place in a context unrelated to sport performance.

"O'Donnell now holds a Therapeutic Use Exemption for the medication that he has been prescribed to treat his ADHD and will be eligible to return to play from 1 January 2027."

The Waratahs have thrown their support behind the young centre, who will be cleared to return for next year's Super Rugby Pacific season.

“Henry made an error of judgement and has paid a heavy price for that misstep,” Waratahs Director of High-Performance B-J Mather said.

“The club has supported Henry throughout the process and we look forward to his return to Daceyville.”

O'Donnell played 12 games for the club in 2025 after his move from the west.

He has also played for the Australia U20s, featuring at the 2023 Junior World Champions.
