Round 9 delivered another weekend of entertaining Fortescue Men’s Premier Grade action, with big attacking performances, crucial results in the race for finals and plenty of tries across the competition.
Associates continued their impressive form with a 48-29 victory over Perth Bayswater. Despite a determined effort from Baysie, including a double from Aiken and further tries from Binnion and Saulala, as well as three conversions and a penalty goal from Heuer, the visitors proved too clinical. Andrewartha and Megson each crossed for hat-tricks, while Prior added five conversions and a penalty goal to steer Associates to an important away win.
Wanneroo secured a hard-fought 27-10 victory over Wests Scarborough in one of the tighter contests of the round. Tries to Roux, Gratton and Allsop laid the platform for the visitors, while Ale was flawless from the tee with three conversions and a penalty goal. Wests remained in the contest through tries to Baker, Hulme and Fotheringham, but Wanneroo held firm to collect the points.
Cottesloe’s attacking firepower was on full display as they defeated Southern Lions 50-29. The Lions showed plenty of fight, with Tacikalou Naisiroki grabbing a brace alongside tries from Garcia, Dussargues and Leef. However, Cottesloe ran in eight tries of their own, including doubles to Greatwood and further tries from Mounsey, Healey, O’Grady, Smith, Cayless and Bevin, with Taylor converting five.
UWA produced another dominant performance, overpowering Kalamunda 54-5. Houkamau crossed for Kalamunda’s lone try, but UWA controlled proceedings with doubles to Mahood and McEntee-Walters. Taylor, Short, Bronlund and Merritt also found the line, while Young slotted seven conversions in an accurate display from the kicking tee.
Palmyra and Joondalup Brothers delivered an entertaining, high-scoring affair, with Palmyra emerging 69-31 winners. Alatini starred with a hat-trick, Robertson added two, and Kellam, Kennington, Jones, Bailey, Chennebault and North all crossed in a relentless attacking performance. Joondalup Brothers continued to fight back, with Gouws grabbing a double alongside tries from Stone, Hale and Tarawa, who contributed three conversions.
This weekend’s Stan Sport Match sees Wanneroo host Cottesloe in what shapes up to be a blockbuster clash. Supporters can catch the match live on Stan Sport, with all other Fortescue Premier Grade fixtures available on Rugby Xplorer.
