Pukekohe High School successfully defends 1st XV Shield

Pukekohe High School successfully defended the 1st XV Challenge Shield in a thrilling 16-13 win over Papakura High School in Counties Manukau Secondary Schools play on Saturday.

The holders were able to do enough to fend off a strong challenge by Papakura.

“It was a hard-fought win and could have gone either way,” said Pukekohe High coach Craig Flanagan.

“I’m very pleased with the way the lads stick to the game plan and didn’t get rattled when down on the scoreboard.”

Wesley College dominated Waiuku College in a 63-7 while Manurewa High School collected a 41-5 win over Rosehill College on the road.

Tuakau/Onewhero picked up a 37-10 win over Wesley College in the Year 11+ grade.

In the other match, Manurewa High School beat Pukekohe High 53-5 away from home.

In Year 10 play, Wesley College held off St Ignatius 36-12, Tuakau/Onewhero beat Papakura High 31-17 while Pukekohe High School enjoyed a 55-11 win away to Waiuku College.

Wesley College edged Pukekohe High 34-31 in a close contest in the Year 9 grade.

Tipene St Stephens hammered Tuakau/Onewhero 102-0 while Rosehill College proved too good for Waiuku College thanks to a 76-0 win.

In the Girls XV competition, Pukekohe High School defeated Manurewa High School 39-22, James Cook High School beat Wesley College 31-0 while Papakura High School triumphed over Waiuku College 51-0.
