Manurewa secured their fourth win in succession in the Premier Women’s competition as they defended the Counties Sports Hub Shield with a 43-12 win over Patumahoe.
In the first meeting between the two local sides in the grade, the experience and class of Manurewa shone through.
“Was an absolutely stunner of a day at Rewa and a crowd to match,” Manurewa coach Arihiana Marino-Tauhinu said.
“Our ladies started well and scored an early try but in true Pattty fashion they came straight back with a try of their own.
“Throughout the remainder of the first half our team just got stuck into their work and did the basics well. Nothing flash, just carried well and defended well
“Patumahoe were impressive and never gave up with a long range try that had the crowd cheering. We wish Patumahoe all the best for the rest of the season.”
Manurewa keeps pace with Ponsonby at the top of the standings.
Pukekohe went down to MK Rangers in their Women’s Premier Development contest at Riverhead War Memorial Park.
Papakura found themselves on the wrong end of a 62-17 scoreline against Waitemata while Weymouth tasted defeat for the first time this season after going down to University 32-24
