RugbyWA is thrilled with announcement that Western Australia will host seven games during the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup.

World Rugby and the Government of Western Australia have announced this morning that Western Australia will see seven games played in the state during the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup, including the opening fixture.

Taking place every four years, the Men’s Rugby World Cup is the most prestigious Rugby Union event, and the third largest sporting event in the world. The tournament will feature 24 teams competing over six weeks (seven-weekends), between 1 October and 13 November.

Western Australia will host the opening match of the tournament, in addition to four other pool matches and two Round of 16 matches at Perth Stadium, taking the total Western Australian matches to seven overall.

As Rugby Union’s governing body in the state, RugbyWA is looking forward to seeing both our state and our game on show to a global audience.

RugbyWA’s Chief Executive Officer, Simon Taylor, said: “RugbyWA thanks the Staff and Board of Tourism WA and the Government of Western Australia, particularly the Deputy Premier, who have dedicated their time and effort to ensure Western Australia will host matches during the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

“We are thrilled by the announcement that Western Australia will see seven games played at Perth Stadium. RugbyWA are ambitiously targeting a legacy of infrastructure and programs from this Golden Decade that will enable us to grow to 50,000 active participants in community rugby in Western Australia.

“RugbyWA is looking forward to the 2027 Rugby World Cup’s arrival in Western Australia, and to provide those inspired by the tournament with the opportunity to join the vibrant, growing rugby community present within Western Australia.”

Perth will also be the host to the first game of the Wallabies campaign, kicking off their tournament.

Carlo Tizzano, Western Australian-born Wallaby, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to see Western Australia be the host of the first game of the Wallabies campaign, right here in Perth at the best stadium in Australia.

“As a player who grew up in Western Australia and played in the RugbyWA system, it’s great to see Rugby Union on display in the state, as well as showing off Western Australia and our talent to the world.”

RugbyWA also welcomes the commitment of funding to be spent on community legacy programs and infrastructure upgrades for local clubs, delivering long term benefit to the rugby community within Western Australia.

Part of the exciting Golden Decade of Rugby, the Men’s Rugby World Cup marks an exciting opportunity to highlight the sport of Rugby Union within Australia. The arrival of the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup marks a unique experience to unite Western Australians on and off the field, inspiring community connection and driving passionate involvement.

RugbyWA thanks World Rugby, Tourism WA and the Government of Western Australia for their incredible work throughout this period to ensure that Western Australia will host games at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
