Wallabies scrumhalf Nic White has seen the growth in confidence as the side starts to build momentum under coach Joe Schmidt.

The Australians are riding high after back-to-back wins kept their Grand Slam hopes alive, most recently demolishing Wales 52-20 in Cardiff.

It comes after a frustrating Rugby Championship campaign where the side showed patches of their development but failed to translate that into results outside of a lone win in Argentina

White admits whilst they are far from the finished product, the results were crucial as they start to see the benefits of their hard work.

“We were quite frustrated in the TRC with a couple of results. We've been working hard and the results the last couple of weeks have been off the back of a lot of that hard work," White told reporters.

“We fully understand we've got a lot of hard work ahead of us and where we want to be. We're a bee's away from being on the wrong side of that result in England and we did some good things in the game on the weekend but there's plenty we need to work on.

“ It's good to see parts of our game starting to come together. We know we're up against a different side this week and we have to be a lot better to come to Murrayfield and get a result against a Scottish side that's really bloody good at the moment.”

What's been clear under Schmidt has been the increased belief the side has played with as they have torched opposition teams.

They scored 40+ points in back-to-back weeks for the first time since the 2011 Rugby World Cup as the likes of Tom Wright, Len Ikitau and Noah Lolesio have thrived.

“This belief has slowly been built off the back of trust. It was pretty grim last year,” White said. “We’ve been slowly building away at a game plan that Joe wants to play.

“We’re getting an inch closer to the finished product that we'd like to be someday down the road. We may never get there but aim towards it and with each week you see it working, you get a little bit more trust within each other, your own abilities and the team's abilities but mainly within each other around trusting each other to play the style

“...Joe's (Schmidt) very good at reminding us we've still got a long way to go and will remind us again today in review that there's some good things we did but there's still a long way to go to be at the pointy end and this is just the beginning of our journey.

“It’s exciting. The belief is building but continue to build that belief and Joe keeps telling us the trust is the glue to that belief and we've got to continue to earn that trust within each other.”
