Rugby Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Shannon Fraser as assistant coach of the Australian Rugby Sevens Men's team.

Fraser joins the Sevens program with over 20 years of professional coaching experience and will link with head coach Liam Barry to usher through the next generation of talent.

Fraser’s coaching resume includes a decade at the NSW Waratahs with roles including seven years as head coach of the Super A side and four as skills and development coach.

He most recently guided the Australian under 18s to an impressive victory over New Zealand in Hamilton last year and has spent the past five years as an assistant to the Australian under 20s team.

Director of High Performance Peter Horne said: "Shannon joins Rugby Australia as an experienced coach, having coached in Australia and internationally, and the Men’s program will only strengthen with his services.

"Shannon will work closely with Liam Barry, Scott Bowen and Lachlan Parkinson to not only deliver outstanding coaching of the national team but talent identification and development programs for our emerging players."

The Aussie Men are currently ranked sixth on the world series standings after four rounds with back-to-back tournaments coming up in Hong Kong (March 28-30) and Singapore (April 5-6).

Meanwhile, Rugby Australia can confirm the appointment of Kylie Baldwin as Head Physiotherapist of the Australian Women’s Rugby Sevens team.

Baldwin returns to RA after previously working with the Wallaroos and Men’s under 20s program while she’s had stints at the NSWRL, NSW Swifts and Queensland Reds.

Jacinta Mattingly has also been promoted to the role of Head of Athletic Performance for the Women's team.

Australia’s Women sit second on the world series standings ahead of their fifth round trip to Hong Kong and will be looking to remain their top two position to finish the season.

Both squads for the fifth round of the HSBC SVNS in Hong Kong will be announced next week.
