The Rugby Union Players’ Association (RUPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Adrian Turner as Chief Executive Officer, commencing 13 April 2026.
Adrian steps into the role at a pivotal time for the organisation, with preparations underway for the upcoming Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations. He brings extensive experience across collective bargaining, player representation, and executive leadership, positioning him to lead RUPA and its members through this critical period.
Adrian has prior experience working at RUPA, having served as internal Legal Counsel, giving him a strong understanding of the organisation, its members, and the broader rugby landscape. He subsequently joined the Rugby League Players Association (RLPA), where over four years as Legal Counsel and General Manager – Legal & Player Representation, he played a key role in the NRL/RLPA collective bargaining negotiations and the application and enforcement of player rights under the CBA.
More recently, Adrian has held senior executive roles at Citation Group, RUPA’s legal partner, where he managed teams across multiple functions and drove a range of commercial, legal and M&A outcomes over his five years with the business.
Adrian said he was excited to return to RUPA and lead the organisation at this important time for the game.
“I’m incredibly proud to be appointed to this role. Player advocacy and the role of player associations in professional sport are causes I'm deeply passionate about. The most successful sports around the world share a common feature: effective and respected player associations. Strong representation leads to better environments and outcomes for professional athletes, which supports the success of teams and, ultimately, the growth of the sport. That is the aspiration I'll carry into this role.
“I’m also excited by the opportunity Australian rugby has in front of it, with dual home Rugby World Cups and home Olympics on the horizon. A strong and connected playing group will be central to the game capitalising on that opportunity, and I’m thrilled to lead RUPA in ensuring players share in the benefits of the growth they will help drive.”
RUPA President and Wallaby #898 Tom Robertson welcomed the appointment on behalf of the playing group.
“I would like to extend a warm congratulations to Adrian Turner on his appointment as RUPA CEO. Adrian’s professionalism, strategic insight, and diligence will be invaluable to RUPA in what is set to be a pivotal year of CBA negotiations, and as we build towards two home Rugby World Cups and a home Olympic Games. We are excited to see where Adrian can take the organisation and look forward to him meeting with players over the coming weeks.”
RUPA Chair Campbell Fisher said:
“I am pleased to welcome Adrian Turner as the new CEO of RUPA. Adrian brings strong legal expertise, proven experience within the player association environment, and a clear strategic mindset that will be invaluable as we enter a significant period for the game, including upcoming CBA negotiations and a major international cycle with two home Rugby World Cups and an Olympic Games on the horizon. We look forward to working closely with Adrian as he connects with players and leads the organisation into its next chapter.”
RUPA also acknowledges the contribution of outgoing Chief Executive Officer and Wallaby #770, Justin Harrison.
Justin led the organisation through a period of significant challenge and change, including navigating the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as playing a central role in delivering the CBA VI agreement, strengthening player representation, advancing player welfare initiatives and leaving a strong foundation for the organisation’s next phase.
RUPA extends its sincere thanks and gratitude to Justin for his dedication and commitment over many years and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
Tom Robertson said:
“I would like to thank Justin Harrison for his significant contribution to RUPA over the past seven years. Goog has had a massive impact on both Australian rugby and RUPA, and we are grateful for his efforts. We wish him every success in his future endeavours and look forward to staying in touch as he embarks on this next chapter.”
Campbell Fisher said:
“On behalf of the Board, I would also like to sincerely thank Justin Harrison for his exceptional service over the past seven years and wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
Adrian will officially commence in the role on 13 April 2026, and we look forward to his leadership going forward.
