RugbyWA is pleased to announce the phased transition of Rockingham Rugby Union Football Club into the Fortescue Premier Grade Competition, commencing from 2026.

Rockingham Rugby Union Football Club will transition into the Fortescue Premier Grade competition, following the achievement of key outcomes and milestones in collaboration with RugbyWA. This milestone builds on the club’s demonstrated growth and aligns with RugbyWA’s strategic objectives to strengthen and expand community rugby across Western Australia.

The transitional plan will see Rockingham participate in Reserve Grade, Third Grade, Colts (delivered in collaboration with ARKS), Women’s, and Junior competitions. This phased approach will enable the club to systematically address Premier Grade competition requirements. In doing so, the club will position itself for a future return to the Fortescue Premier Grade Competition as development milestones are achieved

Rockingham Rugby Union Football Club enters this transition with strong on-field momentum, highlighted by their Championship Grade side dominating in the 2025 season and seeing victory on Grand Final Day at Lark Hill Sporting Complex. This is alongside strong Community Grade and Women’s Community Xs sides. The club also fields junior teams from Get Into Rugby – Tri Time through to Under 18s and boasted a total of 477 registered players in 2025.

Located in a key growth area, and with facilities that support long-term growth and expansion, Rockingham offers significant opportunities for expansion and enhanced community engagement.

RugbyWA is committed to supporting Rockingham throughout this process, providing guidance to ensure compliance with governance standards, sustainable club development, and readiness for competition.

RugbyWA CEO Simon Taylor said, “Rockingham’s transition back into the Fortescue Premier Grade Competition marks an exciting step forward for the growth of rugby in Western Australia.

“Their progress reflects the strength of our community pathways and the increasing depth of talent across our state.

"RugbyWA is proud to support the club through this phased return, ensuring they have the structures, capability, and community backing to succeed at the highest level of our domestic competition.

“This milestone is not just a win for Rockingham - it’s a win for the continued growth and future of rugby across Western Australia.”

RugbyWA looks forward to working closely with Rockingham to ensure a successful implementation of this transition, reinforcing rugby’s values of growth, sustainability, and excellence.
