Containers for Change has partnered with RugbyWA as a Supporting Partner, joining the Sustainability Partner program and launching the Containers for Change Impact Ladder for community clubs.
Containers for Change is Western Australia’s container deposit scheme, diverting 10¢ containers from general waste so they can be recycled and given a new life. Each container returned provides a 10¢ refund, which individuals can keep or choose to donate to a charity, community group, or school.
The new partnership will see 33 community clubs participating in Containers for Change from across the state, as well as bins available at all RugbyWA major events, including its grand final day and its West Coast 7 Series.
As part of the partnership, RugbyWA will also launch its Containers for Change Impact Ladder, an initiative designed to recognise and reward community rugby clubs for their recycling efforts.
Participating clubs will be ranked based on the number of eligible containers they recycle, turning everyday sustainable behaviours into measurable results. Clubs will receive up to $250 from Containers for Change to ensure they are set up for success and ready to collect your containers at each game.
Club players, coaches, and administrators can also direct their 10¢ refunds to their nominated RugbyWA club or the Rugby Foundation of WA. At the end of each campaign cycle, the club with the highest volume of recycled containers will receive $2,000, funded by the Rugby Foundation of WA, to support future club development.
RugbyWA CEO Simon Taylor said: “This partnership provides our clubs with a simple and impactful way to contribute to sustainability while generating meaningful support for grassroots rugby.
“The Containers for Change Impact Ladder empowers clubs to turn everyday actions into real benefits for both their community and the environment.”
WA Return Recycle Renew Limited CEO, Tim Cusack said: "As scheme coordinator for Containers for Change, we are very excited to partner with RugbyWA to support all WA community clubs on their Containers for Change journey.
“Grassroots clubs are great benefactors of refunds from the scheme; so, we are pleased to be able to partner with RugbyWA to bring this initiative to life.
“The Impact Ladder is such a great way to build motivation and foster a shared goal across WA rugby clubs, and we can’t wait to see this in action.
“When visiting a rugby club in WA please look for your closest Containers for Change bin and make a difference to a club with your containers.”
Clubs interested in participating can register their interest here and they will then receive further information on accessing their club code and Impact Ladder resources.
