Midlands 15 - 18 Waikiwi - 17th May

After a week of an emotional rollercoaster the boys travelled down to Banfield Road to take on the Waikiwi boys on a wet sodden of a day. The boys were a bit slow to start, making a few mistakes allowing Waikiwi into the game. There were points against us, but we rallied with a very physical battle of the titans. As the game went on Midlands became a bit more dominant but still allowed Waikiwi into the game with our mistakes and we were playing catch up.

A couple of missed opportunities saw us come second. Stand out of the day was Connor McDermott playing like a 22 year old, and Bryce King, George Hazlett and Cruze Webb backed up. We’ve taken a serious injury to one of our play-makers which might see him side-lined for a few weeks.

The boys took note of their defeat and the timing was not bad, as it brings them back to earth and shows them where they need to be moving forward for the second round. After a couple of weeks off we are going to roll into Riverton at home for club day. The boys are going to roll up our sleeves and dig in.
