RugbyWA is pleased to announce the phased transition of Mandurah Pirates Rugby Union Football Club into the Men’s Premier Grade Competition.

Mandurah Pirates Rugby Union Football Club will transition into the Men’s Premier Grade competition, subject to achieving key outcomes and milestones in collaboration with RugbyWA, from the 2025 season. This milestone builds on the club’s demonstrated growth and aligns with RugbyWA’s strategic objectives to strengthen and expand community rugby across Western Australia.

The transition plan will see Mandurah Pirates participating in the Second Grade, Third Grade, Belt Up Colts, Women’s, and Junior competitions during the 2025 season. This phased approach will enable the club to meet Western Australian Compliance Standards (WAC.2) and align with competition requirements.

By 2026, pending the achievement of key milestones, Mandurah Pirates will make their anticipated move into the Men’s Premier Grade Competition.

Mandurah Pirates Rugby Union Football Club is well-positioned for this transition, fielding junior teams from U/6 to U/18, along with three senior sides. The club boasts 314 junior members and 110 senior members, as well as facilities that support long-term growth and sustainability. Located in a key growth area, Mandurah Pirates offers significant opportunities for expansion and enhanced community engagement.

RugbyWA is committed to supporting Mandurah Pirates throughout this process, providing guidance to ensure compliance with governance standards, sustainable club development, and readiness for competition.

“The Mandurah Pirates Rugby Union Football Club’s commitment to growth and the development of pathways from junior to senior rugby is exemplary,” said RugbyWA’s General Manager – Community, Sarah du Plessis.

“This transition represents a significant opportunity to build on their growth and strengthen grassroots community rugby.''

Simon Taylor, CEO of RugbyWA, added: “Mandurah Pirates’ transition reflects the growth and potential of rugby across our state. This initiative highlights our vision to expand rugby’s footprint and elevate the quality of competition in Western Australia.”

RugbyWA looks forward to working closely with Mandurah Pirates to ensure a successful implementation of this transition, reinforcing rugby’s values of growth, sustainability, and excellence.
