The ACT Brumbies have produced one of their best wins to end years of heartache at Eden Park against the Blues.

The visitors have found themselves on the other side of games like this; however, they struck late for the 21-20 win.

So what did we learn?

1. Confidence king in Australian sides

The confidence of the Australian sides in the last minutes continues to deliver big results.

The Brumbies dominated the last quarter with little success but never panicked.

Credit must go to their front-row for stepping up and delivering a massive scrum to fold the Blues and force the penalty for the win.

The opening month was always going to be tough for the Brumbies so to be 2-2 with wins in the toughest places is a massive tick for Stephen Larkham’s side.

Larkham’s face showed what the win meant to the Brumbies, beaming with pride in what his side pulled off.

2. Defending champions under pressure

The Blues must now run the gauntlet after their latest defeat to the Brumbies.

Their set-piece was dismantled in the final quarter, gifting the visitors opportunity after opportunity.

It doesn’t get much easier, facing the Chiefs, Crusaders and Hurricanes in the next month.

With a growing injury list (which we'll get to), the pressure is mounting for the defending champions.

3. The making of Meredith

Declan Meredith’s debut game came under fire, but his last fortnight has shown he’s a Super Rugby-level flyhalf.

His kicking game was excellent all night as he cleared the Brumbies out of their own line on several occasions.

He followed this up with a crucial second-half try to get the Brumbies within two.

Stephen Larkham’s decision to go with Meredith over the experienced Debreczeni is vindicated.

4. Back row beauties

The Brumbies' back-row stepped up immensely in the final moments as several stars turned the tide.

Tom Hooper was incredible with three turnovers, joined by Rory Scott as a constant pest at the breakdown.

The pair combined for five turnovers and 40 tackles to inspire their side late.

Charlie Cale was also great with his carries, with Luke Reimer his usual best off the bench.

5. Barrett's bliss turns to a headache

It took just 16 minutes for Beauden Barrett to justify why flyhalf is his best position, however, suffered a major setback

His turn of pace to beat Nick Frost and race away from the cover defence was excellent in scoring the opening try off his own back.

Barrett’s distribution was excellent, setting up two line breaks in the first as the hosts were rolling at points of the game.

However, his absence after half-time was clear after Vern Cotter confirmed a hand injury.

“It doesn't look good,” said the coach, leaving the Blues with a nervous wait
