The nation’s brightest youth rugby talent is set to converge on the Sunshine Coast again to ignite the fields across both XVs and 7s formats.

Co-hosted by Australian Schools Rugby Union (ASRU) and Rugby Australia (RA), the Buildcorp Australian Schools & Junior Rugby Union (ASJRU) Championships represents the ultimate proving ground for the next generation.  Teams from every corner of the country will go head-to-head for national glory at the world-class Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct.

“Australian Schools Rugby Union has a rich history woven deep in the fabric of youth representative rugby in this nation,” said Kevin Culliver, President of ASRU.

“2026 marks our 52nd edition of the Championships.  Partnering with Rugby Australia provides the ultimate platform for both established and emerging XVs and 7s talent to be showcased in one elite environment.”

The scale of the tournament underscores the immense depth growing at the grassroots level.

“Having representative teams from every State and Territory together on the national stage is testament to the incredible pathways created throughout school and club rugby,” added Michael Procajlo, RA Director of Community Rugby.

“We are thrilled to partner with ASRU again to deliver a premier tournament.  The event simply wouldn’t be possible without the close support of Sunshine Coast Council and the ongoing commitment of Buildcorp to rugby in Australia.”

Tournament Format

The action-packed schedule features 49 teams battling across seven distinct divisions, offering a relentless showcase of rugby in both formats.

The high-octane 7s divisions (U18 Girls and U16 Girls) will explode across two days of intense competition, with teams grinding through five to seven matches each depending on final seedings.

Meanwhile, the endurance of the XVs divisions will be put to the test:  the premier ASRU U18 Boys, U18 Boys and U18 Girls divisions will clash in three full-length fixtures spaced across four days, while the rising stars of the U16 Boys and U16 Girls formats will tackle a face-paced schedule of four short-form matches across two action-packed days.

Traditional powerhouse States, Queensland and New South Wales, lead the charge with 13 teams each.  The are joined by strong contingents from Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory, and Western Australia (4 teams each), the Australian Capital Territory (3 teams), and Tasmania and the Lloyd McDermott Rugby Development Team (2 teams each)
