There were plenty of Australians in action over the long weekend as the European sides returned to their club action.

It's the final week before the Six Nations kick-off, and the impact of the overseas Australians will be especially felt in the coming weeks and months.

Whilst there was no Rugby League One in Japan, it didn't stop starring performances within Japan from a series of players.

France

The pick of the Top 14 matches for the Australians was Pau’s 20-14 win over Clermont, with Jack Maddocks claiming the bragging rights.

Maddocks returns to the starting side after missing last week as he had a pair of offloads and a line-break assist.

For Clermont, Alex Newsome was their leading carrier with 19 runs for 82 metres, which included three tackle busts.

Centre Ben Tapuai was unable to inspire Bordeaux-Begles as they were stunned 22-20 by Lyon.

However, it’s an Australian in the Pro D2 that has garnered the headlines, with former Force backrower Alex Masikbaka called into the Scotland squad as cover.

It comes after Masibaka’s excellent game for Soyaux Angouleme, scoring twice in their win over Dax.

Masibaka is one of several Australian stars plying their trade in the competition, with former Wallabies Izack Rodda and Ned Hanigan standouts in Provence’s 26-17 defeat to Aurillac.

England

Prop Scott Sio helped Exeter build some momentum, starting in Exeter’s 31-22 win over Saracens.

Outside of this, it was a tough weekend results-wise despite the Australians impressing.

Izaia Perese crossed for Leicester in their 38-31 defeat to Gloucester, breaking three tackles.

Josh Kemeny and James Ramm played the full 80 minutes for Northampton as they went down 22-19 to Harlequins.

In the Premier’s Women’s Rugby, Kaitlan Leaney started as Harlequins were defeated by Saracens 33-10.

Japan

With the top division on break, all eyes were on the lower leagues as Quade Cooper delivered his magic for Kintetsu Liners.

Cooper started the entire 80 as he inspired them to a 33-30 win over Kamaishi Seawaves, their first win of the season.

Waratahs drop goal hero Will Harrison came off the bench to close the game out, with scrum-half Will Genia likely back next week from injury.

In division three, ex-Force back Jacob Abel scored in Skyactivs Hiroshima’s 66-5 win over LeRIRO Fukuoka, making nine tackle busts.

Former Australia A backrower Jackson Pugh was also big in the win, recording six tackle busts

In the United Rugby Champions, playmaker Jack Walsh’s red hot run continues for Ospreys, who are now unbeaten in their last five games.

Walsh scored a double along with a line-break assist and a late conversion to seal the perfect day for the Welsh side.

Former Waratah outside back Harry Wilson made an impact for Dragons RFC off the bench against Munster, scoring in the 38-19 defeat to Munster.

Wilson led the team for tackle busts (four) and line breaks (two) after coming on right before the break.

In other results, Max Douglas and Archer Holz started in Scarlets’ 30-24 win over Edinburgh whilst Sam Talakai came off the bench in Glasgow’s 22-19 win over Connacht, with former Force winger Byron Ralston setting up a try in the defeat.
