The Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies Women’s have defeated Penina Pasifika 36-17 in a development fixture as part of the Smartech Super Rugby Women’s competition this afternoon.

The Brumbies looked in control early, controlling possession and breaking through the Pasifika defence with silky ball movement. The Brumbies would go on to capitalise their attacking efforts with three tries in the opening 40 minutes.

Penina Pasifka scored twice in the first half, most notably off a particularly nasty bounce that got away from Brumbies and landed in the hands of a Penina player.

Ending the half with some gruelling defence from both sides, Penina would just stop the Brumbies on the try-line to conclude the first half at 15-12 in favour of the Brumbies.

Flyhalf and seventh star Tia Hinds wasted no time adding to the score tally in the second half as she would kick for herself close to the Pasifika line which resulted in an electric five-pointer.

Penina Pasifka responded with a try of their own, driving the ball downfield and busting through the Brumbies goal-line defence.

Loketi Mahon received a yellow card midway through the second as the result of a scuffle after a tackle gone wrong late in the fixture.

Facing an undermanned Penina side, the Brumbies would score next, going from coast to coast for Charlie Brigstocke to dive in for a try in the right corner.

Brigstocke would put her hand up for another starring effort soon after as the winger would put away teammate Ella Ryan to bring the match out of reach for Pasifika.

With the Brumbies converting both their final tries the game finished with a Brumbies 36-17 win at the University of Canberra.
