Round 7 of the Men’s Fortescue Premier Grade brought the drama, with multiple matchups decided by a single score or less.

In the Stan Sport match of the round, Joondalup Brothers survived a late scare to edge Perth Bayswater 30-29 in a one-point thriller that came down to the final whistle. Bayswater’s tries were scored through Kini, Saulala, Pedley and Ventresca, with Heuer adding three conversions and a penalty goal. However, missed opportunities proved costly. Joondalup were clinical, with tries from Tua, Richardson and Kuhn, while Tarawa was flawless off the tee, slotting three conversions and three penalties to guide his side home.

Kalamunda came away with a 38–34 win over Wests Scarborough at home in another match that went down to the wire. Kalamunda spread the scoring load with six tries, crossing through Seumanutafa, Burges, Kamizona-Heke, Seeling, Welsh and Stone. Jordan added four conversions in a crucial contribution. Wests pushed them all the with double doubles from Hulme and Groom, alongside another try from Cadzow, who also added three conversions and a penalty. Ultimately, Kalamunda’s extra finishing power proved the difference.

In another nail-biter, Palmyra held off a fast-finishing Wanneroo outfit to win 40–38. Wanneroo ran in six tries, with Davis grabbing a double alongside Mainwaring, Preketes, Mulama and Karangaroa. Ale kept them in touch with four conversions. Palmyra matched them try-for-try, with De Wet also grabbing a double, supported by Paese, Maui, McCabe and Alatini. Robertson’s boot proved decisive, adding two conversions and two penalty goals in a clutch performance.

Nedlands produced a strong all-round performance to defeat Associates 34-19. Associates stayed competitive through tries from Goudon and a double from Faoagali, with Drummond converting twice. But Nedlands showed their class, running in five tries from De Lange, Poi, Koteka, Knox and Avito. De Lange added two conversions and a penalty, while Anderson also contributed from the tee.

Cottesloe secured a gritty 20-14 victory over UWA in a tight defensive contest. Tries from Bishop, Nofoagatatoa and Bevin set up the win, with Taylor adding a conversion and a penalty. UWA stayed within striking distance thanks to a try from Simmers and three penalty goals from Young, but couldn’t find the extra score needed to snatch the result.

Round 7 showcased the competitions depth, with three games decided by five points or fewer and the ladder tightening through the middle. Cottesloe stay unbeaten out in front, while Joondalup and Nedlands build momentum and Palmyra keep themselves right in the top-three fight.
