Points flowed and the pressure continued to build in Round 14 of the Men’s Fortescue Premier Grade competition, with several sides putting on attacking masterclasses while others fought out nail-biting contests decided in the final moments.
Joondalup Brothers Rugby Club secured a hard-fought 32–24 victory over Southern Lions Rugby Club in Conference B. Joondalup’s attack was led by Richardson, who crossed twice, alongside tries from Miller and Tarawa. Tarawa was instrumental with the boot, adding three conversions and two penalty goals. Southern Lions responded with four tries of their own, with Garcia and Hardwick joining a double from another teammate, while Turagava added the conversion.
Wests Scarborough Rugby Club claimed a 26–17 win over Perth Bayswater Rugby Club in a competitive clash. Wests found the try line four times through Fotheringham, Hooper, Turnball and Cakaubalavu, with Pinker converting three. Perth Bayswater fought back with a double to Kini and a try to Seia, supported by a conversion from Heuer.
Palmyra Rugby Club produced a dominant attacking display, defeating Associates Rugby Club 73–12. Palmyra ran in 11 tries, with Eden, Nakagawa, Alatini and Widger all crossing twice, while Morgan, Fourie and Leilua also added their names to the scoresheet. Robertson was outstanding with the boot, converting nine tries. Associates responded with tries from Wright and Meecham, with Godfrey converting.
In one of the closest contests of the round, Cottesloe Rugby Club edged out Wanneroo Rugby Club 29–26. Kaho led the way for Cottesloe with a hat-trick, alongside tries from Taylor and O’Callaghan, with Taylor adding two conversions. Wanneroo kept the scoreboard ticking over through tries from Reilly, Mainwaring and Davis, with Mainwaring contributing a conversion and three penalty goals.
Nedlands Rugby Club finished Round 14 with a strong 46–24 win over UWA Rugby Club. Nedlands crossed seven times, with De Lange and Louwrens both scoring doubles, alongside tries from Cakobau, Avito and an unnamed scorer. Boyd added three conversions. UWA responded through doubles from Merritt and Mahood, with Young converting twice.
Attention now turns to Round 15, with Wests Scarborough set to face Kalamunda Rugby Club in the featured clash live on Stan Sport. The round will also celebrate Mental Health Round, highlighting the importance of connection, support and wellbeing across the rugby community.
