FAHS Feilding High School 2024 Team of the Year - Boys 1st XV

The FAHS 1st XV Boys Rugby team have shown that they can compete with the very best teams in the country after reaching the NZ Barbarians Top 4 Championship in 2024 for the first time and are the 2024 FAHS Feilding High School Team of the Year.

After having a strong CNI round robin series - we couldn't complete the CNI season undefeated - but that was the catalyst that propelled us to knock over Gisborne BHS and Palmerston North BHS in successive weekends to claim the Hurricanes Championship for the first time. We have previously won the Top 4 Co-Ed Cup 3 times - but that is no longer an option - it's the big show or nothing these days.

That Hurricanes win meant that we qualified for the National Secondary School Top 4 competition where we met Hamilton BHS and despite giving it our best shot, we lost 23-19. Hamilton went on to beat Nelson College 27-17 in the final.

Some think playing for the 3rd/4th match is a waste of time - not us - it is another great chance to play a big-name school and to represent our School. We had to go up against the might of 5 times Top 4 Champions Kelston Boys' High School from the Blues. They got off to a quick start - but we don't go away. The team dug deep and a second half hattrick of tries from No.8 Raviyawa got us back in front and we held off the last desperate attack from KBHS to claim 3rd place 35 - 32.

The Top 4 weekend was a great experience for the entire squad and one that we are thankful for.

A number of our players went on to achieve higher individual honours with selection to the New Zealand Secondary Schools, New Zealand Barbarians, and Hurricanes U18 teams.
