Finishing on a win against Germany, the USA Men’s Eagles Sevens went undefeated to seal 1st place at Uruguay SVNS 2 and secure their spot on the SVNS World Championship Series.

After going 3 for 3 on the opening day in Montevideo with wins over Kenya, Uruguay and Canada, the Eagles followed up their performance defeating Belgium and leveling up the intensity with a decisive performance against Germany. Debutants, Aaron Faison and Tucker Trickey both scored debut tries in their first tournament in the USA Eagles jersey, while Will Chevalier was crowned Player of the Tournament for his market impact in the center of the pitch which included 5 scores to his name.

Proud of the progress he is seeing from his team, Head Coach Zack Test commented;

"I'm incredibly proud of the boys. Our brotherhood and sticking together led to a high-quality performance against a team that defeated us last week. It’s a massive achievement and while we have much more to accomplish, we are progressing on the path we intended.”

"We witnessed some truly 'warrior' performances this weekend, with players grinding through 14-minute matches that included phases lasting over two minutes. Following the Nairobi tournament, we knew our focus needed to be on starting and finishing Day 2 strongly. We committed to being ruthlessly physical, consistently moving the point of attack, outworking and out-physicaling our opponents, and sticking together as a team. Our goal was to deliver a world-class performance, and we achieved that against Germany."

“A performance like that isn't just for great teams, that's for champion teams, and that's something that’s what we're building; a championship team.  We are only scratching the surface of our true capability, but we're starting to get real glimpses of what that looks like."

“I'm truly proud of the team for securing our place in the World Championships. That was our primary objective, and now that we've accomplished it, we are focusing on our next mission: concluding SVNS 2 with a high.”

“The strength of the group is growing and we’re building systems to withstand any environment, any opposition, any situation that comes our way.
We showed composure, and when things didn't go our way, we grounded back to what we do best focusing on our processes, our brotherhood, our system, and grinded out some wins”

With the team growing in strength and depth, Test commented on debutants Trickey and Faison;

“Their impact was great over the weekend. Debuting, and earning their first tries.
This shows the strength and trust within the entire squad, empowering each other to execute their roles on the field.”

“Also credit to Will Chevalier’s for his fantastic (Try of the Tournament) performance alongside Steve's quality leadership, leading the boys throughout the tournament.”

The Eagles opened on day one against Kenya who came out strong with 2 tries, left unconverted which ended up in the USA's favor. Settling into his stride, David Still III powered through to dot down first. Orrin Bizer followed up just before the half to run in the USA’s second and with Will Chevalier converting both, the Eagles led 14-10 going into the half. Both sides held off further tries, but it was enough for the Eagles to take their first win and set the tone for what would come.

Taking on the home team next,, the USA displayed a dominant performance against Uruguay with 3 first half tries again from Still, Bizer and Chevalier this time adding points off the boot and staying strong defensively holding 19-0 at halftime.Stephen Tomasin dotted down to open proceedings in the 2nd half. Making their USA Eagles Sevens debuts, Tucker Trickey and Aaron Faison entered the stage with Faison. WIth a USA yellow in play, Uruguay responded with 2 groundings, but Faison responded with a debut day try touching down just before the whistle to secure the win 29-14

USA went into the North American rivalry undefeated after 2 matches on day 1. Jack Wendling put the opening points on the board but Canada responded immediately. David Still III outpaces the Canadians on the outside to run down the wing dotting his name down for tries in 3 of 3 matches. The Canadians, again respond immediately and with USA unconverted, the Canadians lead 10-14 over the Eagles. Ben Broselle powers through to dot down off a line out ball. Giving no time for the Canadians to respond this time, Lucas Lacamp sealed the match with try number 4 to take the win 22-14.

Day 2 kicked off against Belgium who came out attacking and put the USA through their phases for the guts of the first half taking the opening score. With a quick response, Will Chevalier jukes the defense to run in a try  before the buzzer sounds to put the Eagles up 7-5 at the break. Chevalier followed it up picking off a scrum just meters out from the Belgians try line. The USA won a subsequent scrum again 5 meters out with Tomasin running a hard line and Chevalier scooping the ball into his hands to dot down and secure the win 17-5.

With four wins under their belt, the Eagles met Germany again for their final match of the tournament, who also came in undefeated. Having been downed by the Germans in Kenya, the Eagles opened with an elevated intensity. An offload from Still to Chevalier wins the USA first points dotting down in the corner for the opening try, With both sides, relentlessly defending and pushing the pace on attack, Tomasin sees an opening and shifts the ball out wide to Ben Broselle to outrun the ball and taking the 2nd try for the USA. Restarting quickly, the USA drew in two defenders to give Lacamp space on the opposite wing to make his way across the line and take the lead 17-0 at halftime. An injury delay extending the break, the USA came back firing poaching possession to turnover. Shifting through the phases, Chevalier makes space out of nothing, breaking through the Germans defensive line to take his second try of the match. Germany turnover to run the length of the pitch taking their first try. A wide pass to Tucker Trickey, runs in another try for the Eagles clinching an undefeated record for the Eagles in Uruguay with a 29-5 win over the Germans.

Having already secured their standing on the top of the table, the USA Eagles will travel to Sao Paolo, Brazil on Monday for the final stop of the SVNS 2 tour.
