COUNTIES MANUKAU RUGBY CELEBRATES JUNIOR CLUB EXCELLENCE AT 2025 AWARDS

Counties Manukau Rugby came together this week to celebrate the outstanding people and clubs that make junior rugby thrive across our region, at the 2025 Junior Club Awards.

The evening recognised the incredible dedication, passion, and community spirit that keep the game strong from the grassroots up — highlighting the coaches, referees, and volunteers who make a lasting impact both on and off the field.

Club of the Year – Bombay Awarded to the club that has demonstrated exceptional performance both on and off the field, Bombay Rugby Club stood out for its strong organisation, community engagement, and commitment to creating a positive environment for all. Their work in growing the game, particularly in the girls’ space, has made a real difference to junior rugby across Counties Manukau.

Personality of the Year – Carla Hayes (Manurewa) Carla’s leadership, enthusiasm, and unwavering passion for rugby have inspired everyone around her. Known for her positivity and willingness to go above and beyond, she’s made a lasting impact on players, coaches, and her club community — truly embodying the spirit of our game.

Team of the Year – Beachlands Maraetai Year 7 This team exemplifies what rugby is all about — teamwork, sportsmanship, and pride in the jersey. Their strong spirit on and off the field shows that success comes not only through results, but through unity, respect, and representing the game with integrity.

Long Service Awards Recognising those who have given years of service to junior rugby, sharing their knowledge, energy, and love for the game:

  • Ross Drummond (Waiuku)
  • Kurk Brady (Patumahoe)
  • Jamie Dexter (Beachlands Maraetai)
  • Jeremy Baldwin (Onewhero)

Their ongoing dedication continues to strengthen the foundations of junior rugby for future generations.

Coach Award – Mike Clark (Karaka) Mike’s commitment to player development and his passion for the game have made a huge impact at Karaka. His leadership, mentoring, and drive to create a positive rugby experience have helped young players grow both on and off the field.

Junior Referee Awards Recognising referees who have shown outstanding growth, learning, and dedication to the game — ensuring fairness, safety, and enjoyment for all involved:

  • Ashley Milton (Ardmore Marist)
  • Mike Kingi (Papakura)
  • Nick Cattermole

Counties Manukau Rugby congratulates all award recipients and extends a heartfelt thank you to every club, volunteer, and supporter who continues to nurture the next generation of players across our community.
