Regional Rugby Gears Up for New Seasons and Representative Pathways

A recent extensive road trip across regional Queensland has laid the groundwork for upcoming rugby seasons and the development of new representative pathways. The journey, spanning over 1400 kl and 18 hours of driving, provided myself engagement with local clubs and associations in key rugby towns.

The tour included valuable sessions with the Bowen women's rugby club, the Go Muddy’s, and junior male players, preparing them for the new season. Further engagements took place in Mackay, where both junior and senior pathway sessions were conducted amidst challenging wet weather conditions, drawing good participation.

In Emerald, assistance was provided to the boys' pathway programs, alongside the execution of legacy programs in local primary schools. Discussions were also held with the Central Highlands Junior Rugby Union (CHJRU) committee regarding two significant upcoming events in Emerald: the CQ Muster, scheduled for May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and the Western 7s, taking place on May 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.

The trip concluded with a return to Rockhampton, aided by the comfort and handling of a new Ford F-150, which definitely enhanced the travel experience. The tour provides a strong commitment from QRU to fostering rugby talent and participation across regional Queensland.
