Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union (CMRFU) and Players Sports have joined forces in a new strategic community partnership focused on giving back to the Counties Manukau region and strengthening grassroots sport.

Built on a shared commitment to community connection through sport, the partnership will help ensure young people, families, schools and clubs have greater access to quality sporting footwear and equipment. By working together, the two organisations aim to remove barriers to participation and improve access to high-quality sports gear across the region.

“This partnership demonstrates what’s possible when organisations collaborate for the greater good,” said Andrew Philips, Head of Commercial at Counties Manukau Rugby Football Union. “By joining forces with Players Sports, we’re able to give back to our community in a meaningful and practical way. Our region deserves access, support and opportunity, and this partnership helps us deliver exactly that.”

Throughout the year, Players Sports will provide the opportunity for everyone in the Counties Manukau region - from high performance athletes to grassroots participants - to save on rugby boots, running shoes and other sports gear through the Union. The initiative is designed to make quality equipment more accessible and affordable for local families, helping remove cost as a barrier to participation.

Mike Wood, Managing Director of Players Sports, said the partnership aligns strongly with the company’s purpose.

“We’re proud to partner with Counties Manukau Rugby, an organisation deeply connected to its people and its community,” Wood said. “Supporting grassroots sport sits at the heart of who we are. Together, we can make a genuine difference for families across the Counties Manukau region by improving access to the gear they need to participate and perform.”

The partnership takes effect immediately, with joint initiatives launching throughout 2026 as part of a broader commitment to strengthening community sport, fostering connection, and celebrating the values that underpin rugby in Counties Manukau.
