TRU congratulates Bec Sweetman from the Burnie Rugby Club for being accepted into the 2026 RA Female Leadership Program.

Each year RA selects a small group of leading players, officials and administrators from across the country to participate in a mentoring program to encourage, develop and support women in leadership positions in the sport, and Bec has been the only Tasmanian selected this year. She will go to Sydney later this month for a formal workshop where she will connect, learn, and network with like-minded leaders from around Australia.

The program focuses on strengthening rugby by building capability and increasing female involvement across all areas of the game. In 2026 it will spotlight the next generation of leaders through the launch of the Mentee Initiative, with 2025 alumni playing a key mentoring role. With the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup on the horizon, this refreshed program marks an important step toward greater gender equality in rugby, celebrating and supporting the rise of women in the sport. Bec is driven to prove that opportunities in rugby exist both on and off the field and is deeply passionate about inspiring players and volunteers to take the plunge, becoming a powerful voice and support for women across the state. She is excited to bring her new skills and insights back to her team, her club, and the TRU as a whole, using her experience to inspire, lead, and strengthen rugby across the state.

Bec exemplifies Rugby values, and as the 2025 state captain she has already been an inspiration to her teammates and supporters of the game in Tasmania. We couldn't be more proud of her achievements on and off the field, and look forward to seeing more of her leadership in Tasmanian Rugby this year and into the future.
