Australia U20 superstar Treyvon Pritchard has been named at fullback as part of widespread changes to the team ahead of the Junior World Championship fifth-place semi-final against Wales on Monday (AEST).

Riley Whitfeld, TJ Talaileva and Charlie Bird all make their first starts of the tournament as coach Chris Whitaker freshens up the team following a brutal defeat to France.

Pritchard's move to fullback opens the door for Bird to start at inside centre, with Taione Taka back after his concussion.

Sevens star Wallace Charlie shifts to the wing, with Whitfeld elevated from the bench after joining the squad late as an injury replacement.

"We are determined to bounce back from the tough defeat last time out and are hopeful that some of the changes will give us a lift," Whitaker said.

“Wales have been strong throughout the group stages, and we know we'll have to be at our best to come out winners.”

Sam Blank comes in at scrumhalf, with Finn Mackay ruled fit to play as he continues to deal with a hand issue.

In the forwards, Talaileva headlines a new-look back-row after his stellar performances off the bench.

Marshall Le Maitre replaces Tom Robinson (ankle), with Eli Langi taking over the captaincy.

Jacob Job returns to the starting side at prop, swapping with Kingbenjamin Swerling-Finaipepe, while Isaac Fonua starts at lock.

Jonty Fowler is among the new faces on the bench, joined by the likes of Angus Grover, Toby Brial and Tom Farr-Jones.

Scotland will take on Argentina in the other fifth-place semi-final.

Kenneth Harris (shoulder) and Leo Jaques (hamstring) have returned home and will not be available for the final two matches.
