Founded in 1886, the Patumahoe Rugby Club stands as a cornerstone of Counties Manukau rugby and holds the distinction of being the region's first established club. Proudly wearing the blue and gold, our club has been more than just a sports organization—it has been the beating heart of our community for over 135 years.
The club's story began when a group of pioneering settler families gathered in the Mauku/Patumahoe region to organise friendly rugby matches. From these humble beginnings, Patumahoe Rugby Club has grown to become a powerhouse in Counties Manukau rugby, producing numerous talented players and securing multiple club championships.
Our name carries a profound connection to local history. The term "Patumahoe" originates from a significant moment when a Māori chief ordered the felling ("patu") of a sacred Mahoe tree near what is now known as Membrey's Hill. This act of protecting cultural heritage mirrors our club's enduring spirit and dedication to preserving community values.
At the core of Patumahoe Rugby Club's success lies our unwavering commitment to family values. This family-oriented approach has defined our culture through both challenging times and triumphant victories. In 2011, we celebrated our 125th anniversary, marking generations of rugby excellence and community fellowship.
Today, Patumahoe Rugby Club continues to build upon its rich heritage, fostering the same community spirit that has characterized us since 1886. We remain dedicated to developing not just skilled rugby players, but also strong community leaders who embody the values of our proud club.
Our doors are always open to new members who wish to be part of this historic institution, where the passion for rugby meets the warmth of community spirit.
