Tū Kotahi Wahine 40 - 10 Blues
Tū Kotahi Wahine had their first night game of the season this week, and played Blues at Marist under lights. Being a Town vs Town game before a long weekend meant there were lots of supporters cheering on the ladies. The first half was littered with mistakes from both teams, which meant lots of stop start play for scrums and penalties. Playing under lights is always a very different rugby experience and definitely took a bit of getting used to. Both teams had moments of success, but half time team talks were about leaving the first half behind them, and working to improve things after the break. The first half ended 14-5 to M&Ms.
After a few deep breaths and oranges at half time, both teams restarted with better structure, more communication, less mistakes and loose balls. The backs started to use set piece more effectively using chip and chases to gain territory. The forwards were incredibly dominant in scrums, managing to turn over a large number. Both the forwards and backs had strong ball carriers breaking the Blues defences, leading to the tries! Blues had some brilliant moments on attack, came close to scoring a few times, but mostly couldn't quite get past the M&Ms defences. M&Ms try conversions were almost all successful, making the final score a pleasing 40-10.
