Midlands 44 -5 DLS - 12th April
With the Hamilton shield on the line and the passing of Life Member Trevor Caldwell earlier in the week it didn't need much encouragement to get the boys fizzing with a strong southwest wind.
With the wind slightly behind us the men got into their work but the DLS defence held up strong, as we knew they would be in the dog fight for 80 minutes if we gave them a sniff. With the scores 5 all after 20, many of the DLS supporters would of thought they were in with a chance, but after Max Foy dotting down in the corner (TMO probably would of said no try - but that technology is not in div 2) so we took it, and another try went to George Hazlett in his 50th game for Midlands.
Confidence was up at half-time. 17-5 up in the second half. A couple of quick trys to some slick backs playing wide and finding gaps. Even a 40m odd run by myself got the crowd off their seats yelling “GO STEW!”. You could even here Christine from the bowling Green.
Overall in the second half the boys took it to DLS winning 44 -5. What a way to celebrate a sad week for the club.
Bring on Waikiwi Thursday night under lights at Rugby Park. Who knows maybe I'll get 60m this time.
